Birth Doula || Mama Circles || Retreats

Los Angeles, CA

Feel grounded in your inner knowing. Be held by community. Navigate this sacred journey with heart and wisdom.

Birth + motherhood are transformative — let’s honor and deepen your experience together.

Moving through rites of passage, like pregnancy, birth and parenthood, are some of the most sacred journeys we experience in life. But, they often end up feeling more hollow than they should thanks to endless to-dos, rushed appointments, and loads of shoulds and advice. It can feel overwhelming, like you don’t know what’s right for you and like you’re disconnected from the depth of your experience. You deserve to go deeper.

You deserve to feel that this moment in your life is honored and revered. You deserve to fully trust your inner knowing and let it be a guide for you and your family, however unique the vision. You deserve to feel like you aren’t alone in the murk of parenthood (at any stage). And you deserve someone to hold space and guide you in all of this, without judgment, but with thoughtful support so that your experience is meaningful to you.

I am obsessed with the blooming and growth that happen when we move through big things in our lives in deep, intentional ways.

The path never looks exactly the same, but there is one constant: no one can walk that path for you. The beauty is you don’t have to do it alone.

As a doula, I offer you thoughtful, evidence-based care, centered on your needs, to support you emotionally, physically and spiritually throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

In circle, I create safe space for you to share what’s on your heart in a nonjudgmental, supportive setting, so you can walk away feeling lighter and less alone.

Hi, I’m Ali Carr, a birth doula, mama of 3 girls, and a women’s circle facilitator in Los Angeles, CA.

If an additional support person is there — like a partner and/or a parent — I can assist them in energetically attuning to you so they can support you.

We’ll work collaboratively with the rest of your birthing team to navigate any decisions that need to be made in an intentional way that maintains your agency in the experience.

And utilize movement and positioning as a to manage pain and to encourage the baby through the birth canal.

Circles for Mamas at All Stages

  • A Circle is a way to build the village and nurture inner growth while in community — both of which are vital on the parenting journey.

Engaging in this work is an incredible way to hear what your heart has to say, build a deeper connection with yourself (and your external relationships), and feel nourished, grounded and at peace. It can be profoundly liberating.

    In Circle we:

    • Join together with 8-10 other women weekly

    • Do a short grounding meditation to arrive and create a sacred space

    • Build safety, confidentiality and a space of non-judgment into the group through guidelines

    • Introduce a prompt that invites sharing from a deep place

    • Listen to each other and share what feels authentic to each of us

    • Give and receive empathy and validation for wherever you are on your journey

    • And more

  • Our reflection circles are rooted in authentic sharing, non-judgment and empathy.

Circles that embrace all stages of motherhood (from pre-conception to moms of school-age kids) mean you’ll find other mamas moving through similar + different experiences to you. It all belongs and is supportive.

No one has to do this alone.

    • 5- to 6-week cycles

    • multi-stage support: whether you are pregnant, in early postpartum or further into motherhood, we’re all here to witness each other in the human joys and struggles of raising little ones

    • come as you are — your bare face/tears/smiles/whole selves are welcome here

  • Our Circles will begin as soon as we have enough mamas (8-10) to create the experience.

Circles are either virtual or in-person on the west side of Los Angeles starting in 2025.

Tell us more about you, what stage of motherhood you are in + your availability and we will let you know as soon as your Circle is ready.

  • SEP - OCT 2025

Join me at WUUM in Santa Monica for a 6-week session for anyone facing cancer or who has a cancer history. We’ll circle weekly on Fridays from 10:30 - 12.

Slow down, breathe deeply, and be held in community. Everything belongs here—grief, joy, pain, hope. Guided by a breast cancer survivor and thriver, the circle centers around meditation, a reflective prompt, and shared truth-telling. This gentle, time-honored practice invites presence, honesty, and care in a space of deep listening and connection.

My Goals as Your Doula in Birth

Prioritize what matters to you

  • You are the expert in your own life and honoring your knowing comes first.

Tap into age-old wisdom to create more flow in birth 🌀

  • Creating a dimly-lit, calm, soothing environment — whether you are in the hospital, a birthing center or at home. This will down-regulate your nervous system so you have more ease.

  • Embrace cycles of nature vs clock time — every birth happens on its own time.

  • Observe how you’re laboring and introduce different methods for coping as needed for whoever is supporting you in that moment — a partner, friend, family member or myself.

  • Suggest different positions depending on where baby is to help progress baby’s descent.

  • Support through words of affirmation and encouragement.

  • Work with your support team to slow the process and maintain a grounded, present environment centered on your needs.

  • Slowly investigate every recommendation and advocate for what matters to you.

“You are invaluable to me and I’m so happy you are going to be there to help guide me and this little guy into the world. I feel so calm and supported both for the birth and for having you be a part of it.” — Sara B.

Why Hire a Doula?

Since the dawn of time, women have supported other women in childbirth. Whether it was a neighbor or a family member, nurturing, empathetic care was provided by a female companion, easing a birthing person’s journey through this wild, embodied adventure. But, there were a couple of other things women had going for them before modern medicine…

The Wild Grace Philosophy

I believe we, as humans, have an animal sense when it comes to birth. It is in our bodies. But, in today’s society, where we praise structure, order and control over the wilderness that is birth, we have become detached from our instinctual knowing — or simply, we don’t know how to trust it.

My work is to help you connect back to your body, so that you know how to listen when birth tells you what it needs. And to help you tap into your intuition — the inner voice that knows exactly what’s right for each of us.

Both instincts and intuition — once developed — can help us move through the journey of birth and parenthood from a place of alignment and intention, helping us feel confident and clear (or also okay when we aren’t confident and clear). And the transformative journey can truly feel meaningful. This is true whether you birth at home in a hospital birth and have a vaginal birth or a cesarean birth. All are welcome here.

Whether I work with you as a doula, you join our Mama Circles, your instincts and inner knowing will be nurtured and expanded. You are the expert in your own life. I’m here to walk alongside you in conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting or any other rite of passage to help you build tenderness, resilience to welcome the unknown with curiosity, trust and a full heart.
